2004 Land Rover Discovery SE

I've owned this Discovery for a while and have put a lot of time and money into making it a dependable truck. The goal was to build something that was reliable enough to enjoy while keeping the character of an older Land Rover. Like any 22 year old Discovery, it isn't perfect, but it has been a great car for me.

The good: it runs and drives well and just had an oil change less than 100 miles ago. Over the last few years it's had a new water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt, valve cover gaskets, brake master cylinder, all new hard and soft brake lines, new catalytic converters, and all four O2 sensors. It also has a Terrafirma 2" lift kit with new shocks, new tires, an ARB front bumper, desirable factory roof basket, four front-mounted Hella lights, and a rear Hella work light. The rear frame (tow hitch area) had rusted sections professionally cut out and repaired and was rust-proofed from the inside afterward, so it's solid. The fuse box has also been replaced with a good used OEM unit and works as it should. I have receipts for the work I've had done.

The issues: Front bumper has a little rust, the rear windows don't go down, the Three Amigos lights come on occasionally and then go off, there's an intermittent coolant leak that has been traced to the coolant reservoir cap, and there's a small exhaust leak at the headers that makes a ticking noise. There is some typical surface rust underneath because it's a New England Land Rover, but the structural rust has already been repaired.

If those issues don't scare you off, you'll end up with a Discovery that's had a lot of expensive maintenance and upgrades already taken care of. These trucks aren't for everyone, but if you know what they are and have been looking for one, this is a good, honest example that you can drive and continue improving over time.
